Bellevue child missing for five years

Police chief appeals to Sky Metalwala's mother for assistance

Sunday marks the fifth anniversary of the day that 2-year-old Sky Metalwala was reported missing, and Bellevue Police continue to ask Sky's mother, Julia Biryukova, for her assistance in the case.

On Nov. 6, 2011, Biryukova reported Sky missing. She said she left him in her vehicle after it ran out of gas in Bellevue. A police investigation revealed inaccuracies in Birykova's statement, including the fact that her car was not out of gas and had no mechanical problems.

Biryukova spoke with investigators the day she reported Sky missing, however has since refused to participate in the police investigation. Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, has been an active supporter of the effort to locate Sky. To date, investigators with the FBI and Bellevue and Redmond police have pursued over 2,500 tips, spent over 14,000 hours, and over $2 million in this lengthy investigation, but Sky remains missing.

Police remain hopeful this case will be solved, and Bellevue police chief Steve Mylett again made it clear that Sky's mother holds the key to this case.

"Ms. Biryukova, please contact the Bellevue Police Department to allow us the opportunity to help find your son," Chief Mylett said. "We are more than willing to work with you and your attorney to identify a convenient time and location to discuss Sky's disappearance. I am convinced you hold the key to finding Sky.

"The employees of the Bellevue Police Department will not stop searching for Sky, but I cannot emphasize enough the role you play in successfully locating your little boy. As you know, many people have been impacted by Sky's disappearance and I know they would all welcome your active participation in this investigation. If you decide to accept this sincere invitation, please contact my office directly."

If anyone has any information regarding this case, they are urged to contact the Bellevue Police by contacting Investigations Captain John McCracken (425-452-7658 or JMcCracken@bellevuewa.gov).
