At 2:49 a.m. Saturday, Bellevue firefighters arrived at a mosque in the Crossroads neighborhood to find 40-foot flames coming from the rear of the building.
Thirteen fire trucks and engines went to the site, on the 14700 block of Main Street. Crews knocked down the fire immediately with multiple hose lines and saved half the building. They worked inside the structure to ventilate toxic gases and search for occupants.
Firefighters conducted thorough salvage operations to preserve holy books and electronic equipment.
There were no firefighter or occupant injuries. The fire cause and origin are under investigation.
