Cultural Conversations: Matchmaking for love, friendship and connection

Cultural Conversations, Bellevue's popular women's discussion group aimed at increasing cultural understanding and connection, will explore traditional principles of matchmaking and its value to our modern society. The next gathering will be held March 14, 1-2:30 p.m., at Crossroads Community Center (16000 NE 10th St.)

Anat Ben-Shaul will share her experience with matchmaking as it relates to family traditions and cultural values that she experienced being brought up in an Orthodox Jewish community of Yemeni immigrants in Israel as well as her research on the topic. Ben-Shaul will also share her love of literature and teaching romance writing.

This installment will touch on the expanding opportunities for women to pursue their dreams in all aspects of life, including being able to seek true love through personal choice or traditional arranged marriages.

Participants will also explore why finding true love or even friendship can be hard, even in the age of online dating and smart phone apps. In table conversation, the group will share how women through personal involvement in bringing people together, can play a role in transforming societal connections and strengthening community.

The event is free, refreshments are served, and women of all ages, faiths and cultures are welcome to attend. To fully participate in the sharing, we encourage you to make arrangements for child care.

Please RSVP Carol Ross at 425-452-7917 or cross@bellevuewa.gov; or Barb Tuininga at 425-452-2800 or btuininga@bellevuewa.gov.
